Since 2016, Across the Aisle™ — a nonpartisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization — has been providing young Americans (ages 14 to 35) with opportunities to learn, lead, and find bipartisan solutions to our country’s biggest challenges. 

We work with experts from both sides of the aisle to empower voters with reliable facts and a framework to make their own informed decisions. Our leadership programs identify and prepare students and early-career professionals from both parties for decision-making positions on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, and in other public service roles. Our core policy areas include fiscal issues like the national debt and the federal budget, as well as entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Position Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Executive Assistant to support our busy, dynamic President/CEO. The candidate must be based in the Washington, D.C. area and willing to work from the office five days a week. The successful candidate is curious, highly skilled at communicating on behalf of senior executives, and has a high level of attention to detail. They must like operating in a fast-moving, fun, intellectually stimulating environment and be natural problem solvers. They will report to the CEO directly.

Core Duties

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for requests involving the President/CEO’s input and time, including meetings, document reviews, financial decisions, and approvals. 
  • Assist the President/CEO in managing, prioritizing, and completing tasks, requests, and projects.
  • Work with the Director of Executive Communications to support CEO communication with key internal and external stakeholders and partners. 
  • Serve as a member of the office operations team, helping plan and execute office events, playing a role in the day-to-day functioning of the office, and helping plan and produce off-site meetings for the CEO.
  • Manage the executive’s calendar and schedule in-person meetings and Zooms - internal and external - with an eye toward predicting the CEO's needs.
  • Conduct general administration tasks, such as answering phones, filing, ordering catering, organizing receipts, coding expenses, and coordinating the printing and delivery of meeting materials. 
  • Support the executive’s busy travel schedule by making detailed travel plans and reservations, organizing transportation, planning dinners and small group events, and managing guest lists and communications.
  • Be responsive to emails/texts/phone calls, with contact outside regular business hours.
  • Read, research, collect, and analyze information as needed, on behalf of the CEO.
  • Follow up on to-do items with senior leaders of the organization.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years of work experience as an executive or personal assistant supporting a CEO, founder, or equivalent. Experience in public affairs, politics, campaigns, or government preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have experience collaborating with other members of their executive leadership team, including chiefs of operations, directors of communications, etc. 
  • Experience supporting an executive’s work with a Board of Directors and/or donors is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills - ability to manage own workload, multitask, and deliver high-quality product at all times while adhering to tight and structured deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in pressing situations by anticipating needs.
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative while having the confidence to ask questions when unsure.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a wider team.
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Position requires someone professional, confident, discreet, approachable, and enthusiastic.
  • Flexibility to start work early or work late, as needed.
  • Able to travel, as needed.
