About the Organization
Since 2016, Across the Aisle™ — a nonpartisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization — has been providing young Americans (ages 14 to 35) with opportunities to learn, lead, and find bipartisan solutions to our country’s biggest challenges.
We work with experts from both sides of the aisle to empower voters with reliable facts and a framework to make their own informed decisions. Our leadership programs identify and prepare students and early-career professionals from both parties for decision-making positions on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, and in other public service roles. Our core policy areas include fiscal issues like the national debt and the federal budget, as well as entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.
Position Description
Across the Aisle is hiring a Communications and Marketing Coordinator for its Free the Facts program to support the execution of our earned and paid media strategy across digital, print, and broadcast platforms. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining the products and processes underpinning Across the Aisle’s communications strategy, managing timelines, and monitoring progress. This role will involve all aspects of Communications and Marketing, including press relations, digital media, campaigns, advertising, events, and web production.
Core Duties
Reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing, the Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Building and maintaining the media lists bolstering press outreach for Across the Aisle
- Drafting press releases, reporter pitches, talking points, media briefs, social media copy, and web articles on behalf of Across the Aisle and its educational program, Free the Facts
- Overseeing the organization’s regular media monitoring reports
- Conducting media and/or market/industry research as needed
- Managing and maintaining the editorial calendar for Free the Facts, Across the Aisle’s educational program
- Managing day-to-day communications and marketing needs, such as scheduling meetings and managing touchpoints with vendors, stakeholders, reporters, etc.
- Managing timelines and deliverables for content production across the Communications and Creative departments
- Assisting the Communications and Marketing Director and the Digital Media Strategist with tracking key performance indicators
- Assisting with pitch decks and presentations showcasing the organization’s Communications and Marketing impact
Requirements
- A Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, or a related field
- Strong writing skills and comfort working in a variety of formats, including reporter pitches, press releases, talking points, social media copy, memos, and articles
- Ability to tailor messaging to a variety of audiences
- Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously, delegate work effectively, meet deadlines, and effectively communicate with team members
- Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Passion for brand storytelling, messaging, and turning complex information into engaging content
- Ability to present ideas and interact with vendors, stakeholders, and the media
- Ability to meet the demands of an on-site event environment:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Ability to lift and/or move boxes and equipment
- Ability to position oneself under tables or stages and/or lower oneself to floor
- Interest in public policy, public service, and/or education
- 1+ year of experience in Communications, Public Affairs, Marketing, or Journalism roles, including internships
- Experience with project management platforms, such as Asana or Monday.com, is a plus
- Willingness to collaborate with a positive, solutions-oriented mindset and engage with others in an approachable, fair-minded, and accessible way that encourages discussion and engagement
